I met Cedkecia thorough my buds, Son of Light Cosplay and Lunar Kitty, years ago and I’ve always loved her passion for Anime, Cosplay, and anything Otaku Related. In the past few years, she’s put her all in her cosplay and model work, being recognized locally and going viral. She even had the voice actor for Hawks (My Hero Academia) give kudos to her cosplay! I asked her to give me a little time to tell me about her cosplay career and her passion for it.
Before I ask you about cosplay, one question. You get a LOT of flak for your anime opinions online. How did that start?
Like any other anime fan that has an opinion about something, there will be another fan that will state their opinion and we have a healthy discussion about it. Most of the time I like to tease the toxic Goku fandom jokingly, simply because they are funny and easy to tease. So I would start a discussion that would ruffle their feathers then behold, a war has started. Overall, I mean no harm and everyone knows it’s a joke…sometimes. Haha
How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying for about 6 years now and I love it every single day.
What kind of cosplayer do you consider yourself?
I consider myself a genderbend cosplayer. I usually migrate towards the men more because I have a lot of favorite male characters and I can relate to them more.
Do you prefer to work alone or with others?
I usually always prefer to work alone, but with group projects, I will usually use my closest friends that I can trust and that I know will have fun with me.
What is a cosplay pet peeve of yours?
Man, I have so many! Obviously, the racism and body shaming in this community. I do not condone bullying and racism. It is never ok. These are anime characters that means a lot to many of us. The point of cosplaying is to HAVE FUN! Doesn’t matter who you are, your body type, skin color, religion, etc. I also have noticed how it’s starting to be all about popularity in the community. Let’s remind ourselves that it is also about just having fun and enjoying the character and how much they mean to you in your heart. It’s ok to not be “popular”. Just enjoy it.
What is your favorite cosplay project?
My favorite project so far is the Sonic Riders “Babylon Rogue” group cosplay with my friends. It was a vision of mines I wanted to do for a very long time and I’m so happy to have amazing friends who are like brothers to me that wanted to have fun with this project with me.
What is cosplay to you? Why do you cosplay?
To me, cosplay is my safety net. It is my happy place, my positive space. It is an amazing world that I can step into to be something or someone else that means a lot to me. My love for the characters are displayed through my work, merchandise, and how incredibly often I talk about them a lot with friends!
